seems like the big message is 'not just a blog(spot) anymore'
makes me question what this blog is doingwhat is 'comets comets'?
wtf is 'co-mix'?
this blog seems to be half spiritual practice and half capitalistic reportage, two trends i invest in right now
seems like we can only hope to replicate comics comics's success for the 'next generation', to label and to question 'art comics' the way comics comics questioned 'indie comics'
wonder what the 'next' 'wave' will be called
i imagine this something else will be concerned less with aesthetics that close off and more about aesthetics that open up to create universal classes and identities, a new modernism
i imagine its 'fanbase' will come from people who could 'care less' about 'crazy' comics subcultures / histories
the comics format will be like a tumblr theme, a format with a simple, basic aesthetic framework in which to exhibit content
the 'surface fetishism' of art comics will react with a homogenizing modernist impulse to create simple, intuitive new comics that exist on conceptual, rather than fetishistic, levels
there will still be grace to images, but this new grace will be functional
new comics will be created quickly and will relate less awkwardly to profit / attention
new comics will be easier to categorize once a 'major work' comes out with 'conceptual / tumblr' concerns / aesthetics
this new work will at first be examined with 'style' criteria and be misdiagnosed as holding no value
new comics will move into gender-ambiguous spaces with new iconography
new comics will take marjane satrapi and allison bechdel to their 'natural conclusions'

Blaise is probably right in his trending. At least partly. For example, The Examiner folded (in part) from continually running headlong into the kind of decentralization brought up here.

I get these are sort of satirical, but it makes me wonder how much certain people are attracted to the world of "art comics" because it's so small, you can feel like a real part of something.

I'm looking forward to the end of "art comics". Let's stop pretending it's even a thing. It's not.

"Art Comics"; Comics that often showcase a more art-oriented sensibility than most other comics.
That's nothing at all. There is nothing to tie any of this stuff together but trends, really; "Art" in "Art comics" is defined by what young-ish guys who're consciously into "art" say art is.
I'll just say this: If you want to make a club, make a club. Write out some loose rules of engagement and help each other make stuff you like.
